Full Probe of Anschutz-Prescott Relationship

Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards Sir Philip Mawer launched the much called for full probe into John Prescott's dealings with casino tycoon Philip Anschutz Monday, according to reports.

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has been under heavy scrutiny by opposition party members for his contacts with Anschutz, who is bidding for the Millennium Dome to be turned into Britain's first super casino.

The critics likewise called for an investigation of possible conflict of interest relating to the seven undeclared meetings that Prescott had with Anschutz, the first of which is the much talked about Colorado ranch stay, where Anschutz was reportedly given an elaborate cowboy outfit gift. Local craftsmen have estimated the value of the Wild West outfit to be somewhere along $20,000.

The ranch visit, it has been said, could be in violation of Prescott's ministerial code against accepting hospitality and gifts that might put him in a compromising spot, making him feel obliged to the giver.

Prescott has declared that he would report on the nature of the meetings to his government. He believes that he has not done anything inappropriate, as according to him, the meetings were part of his job. Anschutz on the other hand, has declined to comment on the issue.
